Assessment 1.1
So.... (the conjunction to nothing at all at this point of distilled thoughts, feelings, anxieties that conjure themselves up and present as a need to do!!!!).
Here we go... Feel a bit overloaded with information, concepts and resources at this point but I am supremely confident in my brains' ability to survive the first Term will eventually prevail! :D
It is interesting to really see how many people are coming from so many different veins of thought and pedagogical approaches and it makes me suddenly self aware and full of wonderment at where I, myself am at at this moment in time. Time... in another 9 months I'm sure will bring with it a whole new connotation. I am really enjoying the digital nature/ nurture that ICTs are bringing to the 'Mad Hatters' giant table of Education. Down the rabbit hole we go!
I found it fascinating to see Gen Z summed up in a video by Paulo Ratinecas "Meet Generation Z" (please follow link below) with an abundance of data and comparative material in nice neat little dot points in a very delightedly simplistic nature. Having a Gen Z child myself, I can confirm quite a number of points made there. She is creative, self-administering her own digital education with Bathurst for varying knowledge, creating websites for her art and definitely blurs the social gender lines... Gets up and puts on her favourite dress to go outside and build something or climb a tree. So, yes this sort of insight will be quite useful going into a classroom knowing (broadly of course as every student is completely individual) where their aims and objectives lie to then be usefully directive in their learning processes of the curriculum. I can also really relate to the "Multigenerational Nature" of families surrounding this generation which Mr Ratinecas describes; results in them having "more respect for their elders" and being generally more mature as a result of that contact time. I know a number of families that either have the children's grandparents very near by and actively caring for them to assist with work schedules etc... or are in fact living under the same roof. These are all very prudent points to understand where the contemporary student is coming from for the sake of adaptability and relate-ability from the contemporary teacher in preparation for the task of creating relevant content in the classroom.
Another point being made in this clip is that our students are becoming vastly more multicultural and more easily adaptable to their surroundings as a result. This such an important point that is becoming more and more a point of interest as it is the reality of our world today making inclusion, diversity and even at time differentiation very real aspects of the job that needs to be taken into consideration at every step. Fostering their ability to interact and peer learn is a great inclusion of every classroom young and old and allows for an incredible team building environment.
I can't wait to see what other information consolidation my brain is able to grasp with more of this content. As Albert Einstein once said "The more I learn, then more I realise how much I don't know".
